Abstract

15,270. Howarth, H. C. July 10. Loom shuttle-changing mechanism; stop-motions. -The shuttle-changing mechanism or stop-motion is brought into operation when a predetermined number of yards of weft have been drawn off the cop. The invention is specially applicable to looms in which the shuttles are changed automatically, and is described in connection with a Blackburn automatic loom described in Specification No. 14,524, A.D. 1902, but the mechanism may be caused to act upon the spring handle of an ordinary loom, to stop the loom in order that the shuttle may be changed by hand. A cam i is slowly rotated through a train of spur-wheels c from a ratchetwheel d, which is actuated by a pawl e on a lever g, oscillated by a cam h on the tappet shaft b. When a projection i<x> on the cam i acts on a finger k on a spring lever j, the latter in turn acts upon the spring handle l, which is released to move the strap from the fast to the intermediate pulley. In order that the handle l may be released only at the right time to effect the change of shuttles, a plate o with a projection p is carried by a rod n fixed to the weft-fork hammer m. The projection p is moved away from the front of the spring handle l, to allow it to be released at the right time. The handle l may otherwise be held by a catch until the right time, when it is released by a pivoted rod rocked by the lever g.
