Abstract

8973. Forster, W. H. Arnold-. April 18. L o o m stop - motions; healds and leashes; dust and the like, expelling on generation.-In an electromagnetic warp stop-motion of the type in which the healds or the lingoes of jacquard leashes act as detectors, a relay circuit is used in conjunction with a weaker primary circuit for actuating the stopping -mechanism. The healds b, Fig. 1, or pieces a attached thereto, or the lingoes havo bifurcated ends, which, when a warp breaks, drop momentarily into mercury troughs c, d, alternately connected to opposite poles of the circuit. The primary circuit is closed and an electro-magnet therein is energized, so that its armature is moved to close the relay circuit. A second electro-magnet k, Fig. 3, in the relay circuit is energized, and a projection m on its spring armature n is moved from under a projecting part on a pivoted lever q, which falls upon the catch end of the weft fork r, Fig. 1. The catch is thereupon engaged by the weft-hammer s to stop the loom in the usual manner. When the fork-holder t is moved forwards, an incline u thereon raises the lever q, which is again supported by the projection m. A rotated fan v is used to blow away dust, fluff, &c. from the mercury troughs. Instead of the mercury troughs, metal strips 2, Fig. 7, on wedgeshaped pieces may contact with a suitably-shaped metal piece 3 attached to the heald &c. In the Provisional Specification, it is stated that the electro-magnet in the relay circuit may move a hinged lever, ratchet, &c. into the path of a reciprocating bar, by which it is moved to strike the belt-guide handle or other part.
