Abstract

11,561. Lion, G. P. J. May 21, A.D. 1902, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901]. Gas and vapour lamps.-Relates (1) to carburetting air by naphthalene vapour, for lighting by means of incandescent mantles. For town lighting, a reservoir A, containing the naphthalene, is placed within the base of a lamp post, and is heated by a burner K supplied with gas from the mains, a tube Q forming a chimney for the burner. The liquefied naphthalene is forced up a central pipe C into a vaporizing - tube F surrounded by a burner N, the vapour entering a bunsen burner G provided with air-inlet pipes H. Spirit burners may be employed instead of the gas burners K, N. Specification No. 5805, A.D. 1903, is referred to. (2) In vapour lamps and burners for burning naphthalene vapour, the reservoir, Fig. 2, is suspended within the lamp, and the liquid conveyed by a single pipe to a doublearm burner, both of which are heated by the flame. The apparatus is started by burning spirit in a saucer K. The burners employed may be Manchester burners or like those used for burning acetylene.
