17,646. Haddan, H. J., [Harris, J., and Smart, S. H.]. Sept. 3. Incandescent gas lamps for burning low-pressure acetylene or other gas rich in carbon comprise a bunsen burner in which the mixing-tube 12 rests upon a flange 13 on the conical gas nozzle 14, and is formed with a flange 22 for supporting the perforated globe or chimney holder 21 with the socket 50 for the mantle rod 24. The air supply through the inlets 18 is controlled by a rotary hit- and-miss valve 19, and the passage and mixture of the air and gas supplies to the tube 12 are facilitated by the employment of a tubular fitting 32, of which both the inlet 29 and the outlet 31 are flared. The gauze 34 is secured between a detachable ring 35 and a detachable burner head 36, both the ring and the burner head being shaped to contract the outlet, in order to increase at the point of discharge the pressure of the mixture of air and gas, and to prevent the flame from lighting back.
