Abstract

3447. Haddan, R., [Allison, J. W.]. Feb. 9. Incandescent vapour lamps. - Figs. 2 and 3 show a lamp with one burner, but, preferably, two or more are supplied from one vaporizer and mixing-chamber. The vaporizer consists of a tube G, Fig. 5, to which the oil is supplied by a pipe controlled by a cock. The escape of vapour is regulated by a needle-valve b which passes through a protecting-tube z and is operated by a sleeve G<2> in which is cut a helical groove engaging a pin c projecting from the block G<1>. By rotating this sleeve by means of an arm C<2>, the needle b is adjusted. The upper end of the vaporizer is situated in an air-supply pipe F and the vapour in passing through the vertical pipe into the mixing-chamber D draws in air through the pipe F, The pipes F and F<1> support a hood E which directs the heated products on to the chamber D. The latter is supported on pipes C, C through which the mixed vapour and air reach the burner or burners. The vaporizer is easily removed for cleaning, being supported by a pin d in a slot in a sleeve depending from the burner chamber. I is a cup to hold alcohol or the like which is burnt to heat the vaporizer before lighting the lamp.
