Abstract
23,661. Suddard, F. E. Oct. 14. Vapour burners. - Relates to liquid - hydrocarbon lamps producing a Bunsen flame applicable for general heating purposes or, as shown in the Figure, for incandescent lighting. The reservoir R has a central air-supply tube I, having a suitable air-regulating device at its base, and surrounded by the wick W. The wick is perforated opposite the opening U, so that a match may be introduced within it as shown. The vapour produced from the inside of the wick ignites, burning on a gauze disc above the opening A. A metal plate D, almost in contact with the wick, shuts in the flame, and the supply of air is so regulated that the flame does not fill the chamber T and char the wick. Oil is, however, vaporized from the wick, and the vapour passes up the tube C, mixed with air entering at apertures g, the size or number of which can be controlled. A circular plate M, nearly fitting the tube C, when placed in the horizontal position ensures the proper mixture of the vapour and air, which burns at N. Air to feed the flame is heated by passage through the annulus K. A glass chimney G encloses the flame when used for incandescent lighting.
