To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, MANUEL GALvAo, a citizen of the Republic of Brazil, and resident of Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Vapor- Lamps, of which the following is a speciication.
This invention relates to incandescent lamps and more especially to lamps of this kind wherein the incandescence is produced by petroleum or other. hydrocarbon vapors, the object of the invention being to provide a lamp of this kind wherein the petroleum is fed into the lamp by the action of the hydrostatic pressure and after having passed through a filter arrives in the vaporizing chamber which is sufficiently heated for producing the formation of the vapor which through an injector provided with a pressure controlling cock arrives in the mixing channel wherein it sucks in the air which is necessary for the formation of a combustible gas feeding one or more burners, these burners being adapted to yield a flame suitable for incandescent purposes and being arranged under the vaporizing chamber.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a vertical section, partly in side elevation of a lamp construction according to the principles of this invention. Fig. 2 is a contracted horizontal section on line 22 of Fig. 1, with the parts on an enlarged scale.
The lamp comprises an upper receptacle intended to receive the petroleum which flows therefrom through the pipe 2 and arrives under the action of the hydrostatic pressure into the combined vaporizer and injector comprising a rear tube 3 provided with a. lateral tubular extension 4L connected by means of a nut 5 with the feed tube 2. The tube 3 is connected through the instrumentality of externally screw threaded parts and a nut with the front tube 6 carrying inside and on its entire length a filter 7 having the form of a tube and formed of fibers adapted to retain the impurities of the oil, these fibers being preferably asbestos fibers. The filtering tube opens out at its front end in the vaporizing or heating chamber 8 which has a large heating surface owing to the fact that it contains two vertical and circular passages 9 for the gases intended to heat it. The pipe 6 is screwed to one of the horizontal members or rods of the lamp.

ing a small screw threaded tube on which the internally screw threaded nozzle 11 of the ejector is screwed. The opening of this nozzle may be closed to a more or less great extent by means of the control cock comprising a rod 12 having a pointed front end forming a needle 13 adapted to close the opening of the ejector; this rod 12 is mounted on a screw threaded back piece 14 adapted to be screwed in a corresponding internally screwed part of tube 3 and carrying opposite the rod 12 a rod 15 on which is mounted a milled disk 16 provided with a view of allowing of this controlling device being actuated. Besides, a screw threaded plug 17 is screwed on the rear end of the tube 3. The escape end of the ejector opens out in a mixing channel 18 having lateral air admitting holes in which the petroleum vapor sucks in the amount of air which is necessary for forming a combustible gas which through the medium of the pipe 19 is brought to the burner 20 above which the incandescent light mantle 21 is suspended. As readily seen the burner 2O is arranged under the vaporizing chamber 8. Arranged under the burner are two cups 22, 23 adapted to receive a little alcohol intended` to produce the initial heating of the vaporizing chamber.
Then it is desired to light the lamp, one first lights a little alcohol introduced in the cups 22 and 23 whereby the heating of the vaporizer 8 is performed, then the controlling cock is opened and the vapor projected into the mixing channel 1S sucks in the air and forms the gas which'burns at the burner. Hereafter the burning alcohol may be extinguished as the function of the apparatus is continued by the caloric effect of the source of light. to extinguish the lamp, one closes the cock by acting upon the rod 12 provided with the needle 13. Thus the light is at once extinguished and the needle 13 cleans the escape opening of the nozzle of the ejector 11.
Having now fully described my said invention, what l claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A vapor lamp comprising in combination, a burner, a vaporizer located adjacent to the top of the burner and provided with a passage therethrough closed to the interior of said vaporizer and receiving the hot air from said burner, means delivering the liquid hydrocarbon to one side of Said vap- VVhen it isl desired j orizer, an ejector at the opposite side of said vaporizer, a valve controlling admis- Sion of the liquid hydrocarbon to said vap orizer said valve having a needle extension projecting through said vaporizer and ejector.
2. A vapor lamp comprising in combination, a reservoir for the liquid hydrocarbon, a vaporizer comprising a receptacle provided with vertical passages extendingtherethrough and closed to the interior thereof, a duct connecting said reservoir with said vaporizer, a tubular iilter for the liquid hydrocarbon, an ejector for the vaporizer located on the opposite side thereotl to the entrance ot' said duct, an air mixer connected with said ejector and comprising two .lateral admission tubes and a conveying tube, a burner disposed underneath and adjacent the vaporizer and connected with said conveying tube, and means for controlling` admission through said filter to said vaporizer, said means projecting through and serving to clean said ejector.

vaporizer arranged under said reservoir and comprising a receptacle provided with vertical tlues extending therethrough and closed to the interior thereof, a horizontal duct connected With said reservoir and discharging to said vaporizer, a valve seat at the end of said duct, a needle valve cooperating With said seat and including a rod extending through said duct, a tubular lter for the liquid hydro-carbon arranged in said duct around said rod, an ejector for said vaporizer opposite to the valve opening thereto, said valve having a needle projecting through said vaporizer and ejector, an air mixing chamber connected With said ejector and comprising two lateral admission tubes, a conveying tube leading from said mixing chamber, a burner under said vaporizer connected With said conveying tube, and superposed cups arranged beneath said burner.
