Abstract

3887. Illy, E., and Buchholtz, E. Feb. 18. Steam &c. turbines.-A cylindrical casing contains a number of fixed discs 7, each disc having a ring of perforations 10 parallel to the shaft and adapted to direct jets of steam into a similar ring of inclined perforations 11 formed in the interspaced revolving discs 8. Each end of the casing has a steam chest 12 fitted with steam and exhaust pipes 14, and the turbine is reversed by reversing the direction of flow of the steam. The turbine discs 8 have cut-away grooves 8<a> forming clearances between them and the fixed discs.
