Abstract

12,174. Reade, R. H. S., and Craig, J. May 28. Driving-arrangements for flax-spinning frames &c. Means are provided for driving the frame at a slow speed when starting. The fast and loose pulleys D, F are provided respectively with the friction- wheel and pinion C, E, so that, by means of a corresponding set of friction-wheels G, H carried on a rocking side shaft N<1>, the fast pulley D may be driven at a slow speed from the loose pulley through the friction gearing E, G, H, C. The side shaft N<1> is carried by a weighted lever M, which is connected with the belt-fork mechanism in such a manner that the strap may be moved on to the loose pulley to stop the machine, and, when the strap is on the loose pulley, the friction mechanism may be placed in gear, but, when the strap is moved on to the fast pulley, the friction gearing is necessarily disengaged. The belt fork 3 is pivoted to a block which is moved on a slide 0 by a weighted lever U, T, and a weighted lever M which carries the side shaft N<1> has its free end supported by a wedge piece X, connected with a second weighted lever V carried by a sleeve on the shaft of the strap lever, the parts being so connected that the strap lever may be moved independently to the left, as seen in Fig. 4, but that, when moved to the right, the lever V is carried to the right simultaneously.
