Abstract
5710. Aeschbach, F. April 27, 1909, [Convention date]. Variable-speed belt gearing.-In variable gearing comprising one step-pulley only, members for shifting the belt are parts of a guiding and tensioning device, which simultaneously shifts and maintains the tension of the belt. The belt r when transmitting power passes from the step-pulley c secured to a power shaft b over guide-pulleys i. The pulleys i are loosely mounted on a spindle g supported at its ends in blocks h. The blocks h are adapted to slide on inclined guides e secured to a frame a. The blocks h also serve as guides and supports for rods k, which carry belt forks n. The blocks h &c. are moved to vary the speed by a slotted operating-lever p pivoted in a bearing o to the frame a. The rods k, which then have a parallel motion, are moved lengthwise also by inclined guide-rods f. In the con6guration shown, the belt r is upon a.loose pulley d. When the belt r is on the part of the pulley c of smallest diameter, the pulleys i are nearest to the pulley c.
