Abstract

7378. Strickland, F. March 26. Gas and explosive-vapour engines.-The engine runs in either direction on a two-stroke cycle. Air is compressed in the part s of the cylinder b into the reservoir r, whence it is admitted through valves l', l, to start the engine and, after starting, to inject the combustible charge on to the vaporizer j on the end of each in-stroke. At the end of each out-stroke, the exhaust valve i is opened, and air, compressed in the space a<1>, passes through the chamber f and port g into the cylinder, flushes it and is compressed on the in-stroke. The valve l<1> is worked by the cam shown in Fig. 6, and the valve i by the cam shown in Fig. 4 ; both cams are mounted on an adjustable sleeve o.
