Abstract
1806. Heys, W. E., [Gilbreth, F. B.]. Jan. 23. Mixing concrete.-Relates to feeding-appliances in connection with the apparatus described in Specification No. 23,966, A.D. 1898. The cement, sand, and other ingredients are charged into a series of hoppers a<3>, the lower ends of which fit close to a revolving drum b, and are fitted with gates, whereby the rate of feeding of the different ingredients may be adjusted. The drum is set in rotation by hand, and carries the material down to the hopper d. The descent of the material keeps the drum in motion ; its speed may be regulated by a governor and brake or by means of a hand-wheel i geared to the drum. The shaft of the hand-wheel is connected through a variable-speed gear to a pump or meter l by which water is supplied to the mixed ingredients. Fig. 3 shows a construction of gate for the feed hopper, in which the gate is adjustable vertically and is provided at its lower end with a hinged flap which yields to allow the passage of the large stones. The drum b may be replaced by a conveyer band.
