Abstract
7699. Ritson, J. H. R., and Jones, J. April 15. Rolling.-In the cold-rolling of plates, as in the manufacture of tin-plate, the plates are passed from one set of rolls to another by endless belts 13, 18 running on rollers carried by a portable frame 3. The legs 4 of the frame can be bolted to the floor between any two pairs of rolls 2, 2X which it is desired to serve, and flaps 8, hinged to the frame, are let down to bridge the spaces between the frame and rolls, their outer ends being supported by hinged legs 9, 10. The lower belt 13 passes over end rollers 11, 12 and supporting- rollers 14, 15. The upper belt 18 travels over end rollers 17,19 and a supporting-roller 21, the rollers 14, 21 being carried by a bracket on the frame. The spindles of the rollers 15, 17 are geared together, and also those of the rollers 12, 19. The belts are driven from the spindle of the roller 15, which has fast and loose pulleys to receive a belt 21 from an overhead pulley 25. The plates pass from the rolls 2 on to the exposed part of the belt 13, and then travel between the belts to the rolls 2x. The belt 24 is controlled by a belt fork 27. The apparatus may be used to feed plates into a first set of rolls, and may be made with a rigid frame when not required to b: removable.
