Carburetting. - Consists in passing purified acetylene gas unmixed with air over, through, or in contact with a volatile hydrocarbon, such as petroleum ether, gasoline, benzene, or the like, or an ether such as ethyl acetate, ethyl ether, or the like. The gas may be caused to bubble through the liquid, or to pass through or in contact with a porous substance saturated with the liquid. The diluted acetylene thus produced is suitable for use with incandescent mantles, or for gas engines.
