Abstract

107,217. Killar, C. F. May 19, 1916. Oils and spirits for burning.-A motor spirit is produced by bringing a liquid hydrocarbon in an atomized condition into contact with a gaseous hydrocarbon such as acetylene, which may be under a pressure of say 15 lb. per sq. in. In examples, a petroleum hydrocarbon boiling between 150 and 230‹ C. or benzol is treated with acetylene, and the product is used in admixture with say an equal quantity of petrol. To prevent the separation of the acetylene, 0.5-1.0 per cent. of ether, acetone, or alcohol in the form of methylated ether or alcohol or wood spirit may be added. A solid hydrocarbon such as naphthelene also may be added. The Provisional Specification states that the gas may be mixed with the vapour of the liquid and the mixture cooled to produce condensation. Specification 105,256 is referred to.
