Abstract

17,841. Durupt, A. J. Aug. 8, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Spirits.-Alcohol is treated for the production of various qualities of denatured and carburetted spirit by adding to it 2 per cent of methyl alcohol and 36 per cent of suitable hydrocarbons, for example a mixture of benzol, benzoline or petrol, and crude petroleum, and afterwards removing the volatile bodies by distillation at about 70‹ C., and then removing the congealable elements by cooling to about-12‹ C. The product isa denatured alcohol, and is also used as a denaturing-agent. Mixtures containing 10 per cent of this product may be further modified by admixture with the volatile or the congealable elements obtained in the first operation, the mixture being afterwards distilled. Products suitable for lighting, heating, and motivepower purposes, and for the manufacture of varnishes, antiseptics, and disinfectants are thus obtained.
