Abstract
Coumarone resins obtained by treatment of solvent naphtha, crude benzol, and the like, with sulphuric acid or similar condensing agent are freed by distillation at ordinary pressure from constituents boiling below 180 DEG C. The residue is then distilled in vacuo, at a high temperature, and an oil is obtained which passes over between 150 and 300 DEG C. The oil may be purified by treatment with concentrated sulphuric acid and subsequent redistillation. The product obtained is a light yellow viscous fluorescent oil consisting almost completely of saturated aromatic hydrocarbons and may be used as a lubricant, as an addition to insulating material, as a transformer oil, as a softening-agent, and also for pharmaceutical purposes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 117,016.ALSO:Coumarone resins obtained by treatment of solvent naphtha, crude benzol, and the like, with sulphuric acid or other condensing agent are freed by distillation at ordinary pressure from constituents boiling below 180 DEG C.
