  • Production Of Liquid Hydrocarbon Mixture For Refining Petroleum (AREA)

Abstract

22,561. Hense, R. Oct. 12. Lamp and fuel oils; mineral oils; fats and fatty oils; turpentine substitutes.-A fuel for internalcombustion engines, vapour lamps, &c. is made from a mixture of hydrocarbons of high and low volatility, such as a mixture of kerosene and benzol, benzine, or some of the final product of the process, by agitating the mixture with potash and, after decanting, adding a material rich in carbon, such as a resin or gum, and a nitro-compound, for example picric acid. The mixture is purified with sulphuric acid and with a solution of Glauber's salt or Epsom salts and distilled. The fraction which distils below 250‹ C. is suitable as a fuel for internal-combustion engines, and the heavier portion as a solvent for fats and a substitute for turpentine. Specification No. 14,671, A.D. 1907, is referred to.
