Abstract

107,454. Heyl, G. E. July 31, 1916. Mineral and tar oils, purifying; oil and spirits for burning.-In obtaining liquid fuels from middle oils of coal or coal-tar distribution as described in Specification 23014/14, the middle oils are treated with alkalies and acids, cooled to 0‹ C. to separate out the naphthalene, and then redistilled. The first portion of the distillate having a flash point up to 35‹ C. is used as fuel for internal-combustion engines, and the second portion having a flash point between 38‹ C. and 49‹ C. may be used as a substitute for paraffin oil or be mixed with petrol for use as motor spirit. The second portion may be treated with dilute sulphuric acid to free it from discolouring matter.
