Abstract

27,679. Fazi, R. de. Nov. 11, 1911. Oils and spirits for burning; mineral oils, purifying.-Petroleum or shale-oil distillates are agitated with oil containing aromatic hydrocarbons, such as tar oil, and with a small quantity of sulphuric acid, allowed to settle, decanted, and afterwards mixed with calcium oxide, which is slaked in the presence of the oil. The tar oil aids in the removal of impurities and also improves the calorific value of the fuel. When crude oils are created, a large proportion of tar oil is used and the product is subsequently distilled. The product may be mixed with small quantities of oil of bitter almonds and sulphuric acid, and afterwards decolorized by treatment with a quantity of lime which has just been slaked. The product may be mixed with gasoline. Specification 25,177/11 is referred to.
