Abstract
14,317. Braby, W. Aug. 10. Sash fastenings.-The bevelled latch bolt a works in the casing e on the meeting-rail of the lower sash, and is shot into engagement with the catch f by a suitable spring. When shot, the latch bolt is secured by the bar h, which falls behind a shoulder on it. To release the fastener, the handle k is pulled, whereupon the lever c lifts the bar h, so that the bolt is free to move back. When the bolt a is withdrawn, the small bolt d, on the top of the lever c, is pushed forward so that its end rests on the casing e. The bar h is then held up until the bolt a is pressed back by closure of the window. If the operator wishes to have both hands free for raising the sash, he draws back the bolt a, and inserts the plate n, which is hinged to the pivoted plate m, between the end of the bolt and the catch f.
