Abstract
19,005. Illingworth, H., and Jackson, J. Sept. 21. Torches.-In torches for lighting incandescent, street, and other gas lamps, the spirit reservoir A is separated from the laterally-perforated burner L by a curved wick-tube J. The reservoir A is partly or wholly packed with absorbent material I, is provided with a filling- tube G, and has a socket B for attachment by a bayonet or other fastening d to the stick or support D. The laterally-perforated burner L is closed at its base K, and is contracted at its outer end, which may be strengthened by a bead N or its equivalent. The insertion of the torch through the flap doors of street and like lamps may be facilitated by dispensing with the tube G, and enclosing the wick-tube J in a shield K<1>, the torch being then free from projections or sharp angles.
