Incandescent gas and oil lamps.-In the oil lamp shown in Fig. 2, a blue flame is obtained by the employment of a flame-spreader or 'gasifier' 6, which has perforated sides terminating in approximately-horizontal and vertical flanges 6<11>, 6<111>, and a closed top. This 'gasifier' is supplemented by a burner body 4 perforated only at its lower end 14, a burner cone 5, and a combined chimney and mantle guard 9 which is preferably of ground or opalescent glass. The guard 9 also serves as a second burner cone to deflect the air supply, and thus permits of the use of a chimney 7 with a wider base. The flanged lower edge of the gallery 15 is bent over a corresponding edge of the burner body 4, and the lower end of the burner cone 5 is secured by springing a locking-ring 16 into position. The burner body 4 is detachably connected to the mount 13 by a bayonet fastening to give access to the burner ; the lower end of the mantle rod 11 is bent to clip over the edge of the guard 9 ; and the shape of the 'gasifier' 6 may be slightly modified. The guard 9, for protecting the lower ends of the mantle chimney, and the mantle rod or support 11 may be used with incandescent gas and oil lamps differing in type from the oil lamp shown.
