Abstract

14,886. Janczarski, C. July 19. Propelling and steering by air and gas jets.-F i g. 4 shows a longitudinal section of a boat fitted for this method o f p r opulsion. From about amidships the bottom is inclined upwards towards both bow and stern, and air or other gas under pressure is supplied under these inclined planes by one of the pipes e according to the direction in which the boat is required to travel. Boards d are preferably use to confine the air or gas. Air may be supplied by an injector such as is shown in Fig. 7. The steam nozzle j<1> is adjusted by screwing it into or out of a nut j<4> by means of a wheel j<5>. Instead of air, the exhaust from a gas engine or carbonic acid or other gas may be used. Instead of two pipes e, four may be used, so that the vessel may be steered by supplying air from one or two only. In place of inclining the bottom of the boat, inclined troughs may be attached to it.
