Abstract

14,686. Nauhardt, O. P. Dec. 24, A.D. 1898, [date applied for under Sec. 103 of Patents &c. Act, A.D. 1883]. Varnishes; varnishing.-Aluminium surfaces are varnished with a mixture of gum lac and ammonia. The mixture is preferably made in an enamelled vessel, and is heated for about an hour on a water bath. The aluminium surface is previously cleaned with potash and dried, and, after coating, is placed in a drying-oven and heated for some time to about 300‹ C. This varnish may be applied to other metals, and the coating may also be further painted, varnished, &c.
