8257. Ransford, R. B., [Soc. l'Aster]. April 19. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting in. The carburetting in surface carburetters is kept uniform, and the gasoline or other petroleum spirit kept from splashing about, by supporting the air inlet pipe C on a float D having radial passages F and surmounted by a plate B. The air is directed by a valve G under the plate B, and after absorbing vapour passes to the engine through the valve casing K. Splashing into the dome I is prevented by a gauze screen J, and the supplementary supply of air is controlled by a valve N which can gradually cut off the entrance of air or vapour ; the mixture passes through a valve 0 to the engine.
