6251. Pervear, C. E., Harrison, W. W., and Holt, J. March 22. Loom shedding-motions; take-up motions.-In looms for weaving hair cloth &c. the shedding and take-up motions are prevented from operating if the nipper g<1> fails to take a hair h through the shed. The healds are operated by a crank and connecting-rod from an auxiliary shaft B, which is operated by a sliding cam N Figs. 4 and 5, from a cam D<1> on the driving-shaft D, and the take-up roller is operated by worm, bevel, and spur gearing from the shaft B. If a hair is not taken through the shed, a dependent feeler f on a lever o is not operated, and an inverted T-shaped lever K is held in the position shown in full lines. This causes the rod r upon the lever K to hold a two-armed dog P on a vertical shaft F in position to be struck by a second cam R on the shaft D, thereby turning the shaft F, and by means of an arm g, rod t, and lever G, shifting the sliding cam N on the shaft B out of range of the cam D<1>. During normal working, the lever K is returned to its position of engagement with the lever 0 by means of a third cam E on the shaft D acting upon the rod r.
