Abstract

20,074. Fullerton, R. Sept. 22. Motor road vehicles. - Relates to two-speed driving-gear for bicycles, tricycles, or other cycles or motors. Two chain-wheels A, A<1>, keyed to the crank axle, are connected by chains E to two wheels C, C' loosely mounted on the rear wheel hub and adapted to be separately con - nected thereto by means of a clutch sleeve F sliding on feathers f on the hub and having teeth f adapted to engage in corresponding recesses in the chain-wheels. The clutch is operated by a lever g pivoted at g<1> and connected by a rod G to a guide H on the saddle post. A curved surface on the rod G engages a similar surface formed on a rod J which extends downwards and embraces the clutch sleeve so that the vertical motion of the rod G causes a lateral motion of the sleeve. An idle wheel L, carried on an arm l pivoted to the frame and controlled by the spring shown, adjusts the tension of one of the chains.
