Abstract

15,788. Shulz, R. July 19. Steam - generator furnaces.- Relates to water-tube boilers with curved water tubes connecting an upper steam drum with two or more lower water drums. Some of the water tubes are arranged to form one or more draught chambers or flues on either side of the boiler, the arrangement being such that the furnace gases pass horizontally and vertically through the flue chambers so formed. The chambers are partly filled with loosely-arranged water tubes, and partly free from them. A large number of arrangements are illustrated in the Specification. Figs. 1 and 2 show a boiler with two flue chambers K<1>, K<2>, for the horizontal passage of the furnace gases, on each side, the partitions being formed of closely-arranged water tubes c, and the spaces being partly filled with looselyarranged water tubes d. The openings from the furnace to the chambers are traversed by tubes d' which act as baffles and promote the combustion of smoke. These openings may be situated at the front or at the middle of the boiler, the latter arrangement being shown in Fig. 8. Figs. 9 and 14 show two examples of arrangements in which the gases take an up and down course in their passage through the flue chambers.
