Abstract

15,700. Parsons, H. July 18. Motor road vehicles.-A variable-speed gear for motor road vehicles is shown in the Figure. The shaft A' with the key a is free to slide within the motor axle, and is rotated owing to the key a engaging with the slots b. Sleeves G and H, with discs K, K<1> and L, L' mounted thereon, are loose on the axle, and are driven when the key a engages with them, one at a low speed and the other at a high speed. The discs M and N are mounted loosely on the sleeves G and H, and are fixed by bolts to the pinions C and E. The sliding clutch or key a is controlled by a centrifugal governor, which may be rendered inoperative by means of an extension Q carrying a roller q engaging with a wedge R operated by a suitable lever.
