Abstract

Superheaters, steam; water-circulation, promoting; feedwater, heating.-Water tubes are fitted within superheating-tubes arranged in the flues of a boiler, to allow the temperature of the steam to be adjusted by passing water from the boiler, or feedwater, through them. Figs. 1 and 3 show a series of superheating-tubes a, a', &c., with connecting-boxes b, b<1>, &c., arranged in series and traversed by water tubes n, n, the water being preferably passed through the apparatus in the same direction as the steam. Water may be withdrawn from the bottom of the boiler. passed through the apparatus, and returned to the steam space, and the blow-off and feedwater-supply openings may be utilized for the withdrawal and return respectively. The feedwater-supply pipe may be connected at one or more points in the system, suitable cocks being provided to permit of either boiler water or feedwater being passed through it as desired. Though shown as applied to a Cornish boiler, the invention may be applied to a marine, water-tube, or other form of boiler.
