Abstract
6544. Cruse, H. March 18. Superheaters, steam; feedwater, heating; water- circulation, promoting.-Relates to superheaters of the kind described in Specification No. 5103, A.D. 1898, in which water tubes are enclosed in the steam tubes. The steam tubes g, which are heated by the products of combustion in the downtake flues of a Cornish boiler, as shown in Fig. 3, or otherwise, connect upper and lower headers b, c, the lower of which is subdivided by vertical partitions into transverse chambers, while the upper is subdivided, as shown in the plan view, Fig. 2. Steam enters at f and flows in a zig-zag manner through the system to the outlet y. Feedwater is supplied at l and passes through the inner tubes h and headers i, j, k, in the same direction as the steam ; or circulation water from the boiler may be admitted by the pipe o, in which a steam injector p is provided. Fig. 4 shows a form of joint between the tubes h and the headers i, j, k. The water, in either case, is delivered to the boiler by the pipe z. A mud drum is con- nected to the lower headers k of the water-circula- tion system. Both sets of tubes may be corrugated, and they may be arranged horizontally, and grouped in any convenient number of sections. The appli- cation to marine and other boilers is mentioned, and the superheater may be independently fired.
