The valve a consists of a dome or beehive shaped piece of rubber or similar material a', the edges a' of which are secured within the air tube c<1> between the flanged end b<1> of the valve stem b and the washer f and nut f<1> When the valve is in position on the rim d, the pump may be screwed on to the stem b, and air can be forced up the stem into the valve a, of which the material a<4> is thereby expanded and the air passes into the air tubes through slits a<5> in the material. When the tyre is fully inflated, the air pressure forces the valve into the position shown in Fig. 4, in which all the slits are closed. The deflating device which may be passed through one of the slits is shown in Fig. 8.
