Abstract

4009. Wade, A. A. Feb. 15. Tyres, pneumatic, felloes or rims.-Means for inflating without using the ordinary inflating-valves are described, being shown applied to tyres of the tubeless type in Figs. 1 and 7. and to double-tube tyres in Figs. 9 and 10. The tubeless tyre is formed with the circumferential slit D, preferably at one side, and is made airtight and secured in position by a compressed part J. At one point of the rim B, and corresponding with the position of the slit D, is a small aperture C which is adapted to receive a flat nozzle M attached by the barrel K to a spring-controlled or similar valve 0 and a flexible tube Z. The nozzle has a smooth rounded end, and is provided with two small side apertures N which allow air to be forced into the tyre when the nozzle is inserted, as in Fig. 1. In the inner tube H, Fig. 9, the short flanged tube T is filled with two rubber half-cylinders R which are thickened and reinforced at the inner end .D'. The rim B is preferably double at the edges, and may be strengthened by a wood backing.
