The diaphragm D is secured to the tyre along the inside of the tread, and extends across the tyre, so that the thickened or tubular edge D<1> forms airtight joints with the tyre edges and also secures the tyre to the rim. The diaphragm divides the tyre into two air chambers, each of which can be separately inflated and employed in case the other is punctured, both tubes being usually employed. The edges C' of the rim may bs extended to support the tyre.
