17,640. Bernardin, A. L. July 27. Stoppers; corks, retaining.-Relates to means for securing corks or stoppers in bottles. A band b, furnished with upwardly-projecting arms b<3>, is placed round the neck of the bottle, and is removably secured by passing the tongue b<1> through the eye b<2> and bending it backwards, as shown in Fig. 2. Over the cork or stopper is placed a disc or cap B', which is fixed in position by passing the arms b<3> through the eyes b<5> and bending them downwards. In a modification, the cap B' is formed with tongues which are passed through eyes in the arms b<3>. The centre of the cap is dished, as shown at b<6>, so that, when secured in position, it spreads the top of the cork &c. outwards against the neck. The arms b<3> may be made separate from and affixed to the band b, or they may be made integral therewith. They may also be formed with strengthening ribs b<4>.
