Abstract

12,737. Meyer, L. June 20. Bottles &c., non-refillable.-Relates to stoppers for bottles, jars, casks, barrels, &c., and more particularly to that type of stopper which is provided with spring catches adapted to engage with recesses in the neck of the vessel, so that the vessel cannot be opened without destroying the stopper. According to the present invention, the stopper is made of thin resilient material, such as tin-plate, and is closed at its upper end, which is adapted to be cut off with a knife, or torn off with a key. Figs. 1 and 5 show the application to a bottle b. The neck a is provided with ridges c, and with recesses d adapted to engage projections k on springs i secured in recesses h in the hollow metal or like stopper e, which is closed at the top by a plate g. In applying the stopper, the projections k pass over the ridges c until they reach the recesses d, in which they snap and are retained, a tight joint being obtained by the use of a washer s. To open the vessel, the top portion g of the stopper is cut off. In a modification, the cover-plate g is made separate from the stopper, to which it is secured by a sealing-strip provided with a tearing-tongue. The ridges c and recesses d, instead of being formed in the neck, may be formed in a sleeve cemented therein, and the springs i and projections k may be replaced by a spring split ring k<#>, Fig. 5, seated in a groove h. Other minor modifications of the means of securing the stopper are indicated.
