GIIAUNCEY C. BROXVN, 0F MARQUTTE, MICHIGAN.
BOTTLE NECK AND CAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 556,804, dated March 24, 1896.
Application filed October E), 1895.
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHAUNCEY C. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at llIarquette, in the county of Marquette and State of Michigan, have invented a new, useful, and Improved Device for Constructinga Bottle Neck and Cap with Automatic Sealer, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a bottle neck and cap, with automatic sealer, which cannot be removed Without the mutilation of the bottle-neck. I attain this 0bject bythe mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure l is a view of the bottleneck with vertical sectional view of the bottle cap and sealer in place. Fig. 2 is a view of the bottlc-neck with cap and sealer in place and both turned at right angles from the position shown in Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a viervof the bottle-neck. Fig. i is a view of the bottle-cap with springs before adjusted to the bottle for use, as shown in Fig. l.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
A is a bottle-neck, of glass or other suitable material, provided with a shoulder or series of shoulders b b arranged in an inverted conical order, in Which there are recesses f f, and with knobs or projections d d connected by tapering necks c c, which knobs or projections d d are placed at right angle, with recesses f f in shoulder or series of shoulders b l), and also with a shoulder g.
B is a bottle-cap, made of steel or other metallic substance, provided with recesses or slits c c and springs a c, which are formed by bending inwardly the steel or other metallic substance cut away to form the recesses or slits c c, or by attaching separate pieces.
G is a pad of cork or other substance used for making a perfectly tight connection between the top of the bottleneck A and the inside oi the top of bottle-cap B.
The several parts as described above are used in connection with each other as follows: The pad C is placed within and at the Serial No. 565,189. (No model.)
top of the bottle-cap B. Bottle-cap B is then placed over the top of bottle-neck A in such a manner that the recesses c c in the bottlecap B engage with the tapering necks e e ot knobs or projections d d, the lower edge of the bottle-cap B coming in conjunction With the shoulder g of the bottle-neck A. As the bottle-cap B is placed over the bottle-neck A the springs o a of bottle-cap B recede in passing the shoulder or series of shoulders b b of the bottle-neck A, and when passed the springs a o. of bottle-cap B engage with the shoulder or series of shoulders b b of bottle-neck A in suoli a manner as to automatically lock the bottle-cap B to the bottle-neck A. In order to remove bottle-cap B Jfrom bottleneck A, it is necessary to break the necks c c of the knobs or projections d d to permit turning the bottle-cap B around sufficiently to allow the springs a a of the bot tlc-cap B to pass through the recesses f j in the shoulder or series of shoulders b b of the bottle-neck A.
lVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a bottle neck, cap, and automatic sealer; the combination with cylindrical vessel A provided with shoulder g, necks e c and knobs d d and shoulders b b with recesses ff, all substantially as shown and described.
2. In a bottle neck, cap and automatic sealer; the combination with cylindrical cover B, provided with slits c c and springs a a, all substantially as shown and described.
8. In a bottle neck, cap and automatic sealer; the combination vwith cylindrical vessel A, provided With shoulder g, necks e c andvknobs d d and shoulders b b with recesses f f; in connection with cylindrical cover B, provided with slits c c and springs a a; in connection With pad C, all substantially as shown and described.
