2277. Clerihew, G. W. Jan. 28. Cans, opening.-The vertical rim or flange b of can lids B are made with a bead 4 forming a shoulder 5 against which the top edge a of the can bears. A weakening or tearing line b<11> is formed on the inside or outside of the can, which is opened by pulling the projecting tongue b<1>. The lid may be made without the bead 4 as shown in Fig. 5.
