Abstract

1948. Lucas, E. S. Jan. 25. Locks, key.-Relates to an appliance for automatically keeping brakes in action, which appliance may also be used as a cycle lock. A casing B fixed to the handle bar A by a screw M contains a spring ratchet drum C and pivoted spring pawl D. The usual brake lever E is connected with the spring drum by a chain F passing under a pin L. When the brake is applied the chain is wound on the spring drum C, which is locked by pressing inwards the pawl D. The spring pawl is released by exerting further pressure on the brake lever E. To cause the appliance to act as a cycle lock, the spring of the pawl D is carried by a slide H which may be moved by a key. When the slide is moved, the end of the spring acts on the opposite side of the pivot of the pawl D, and forces the pawl into engagement with the ratchet.
