Abstract
24,128. Slack, T., and Whitaker, T. Nov. 16. Brakes.-The brake is connected to the handlebar, which is slightly rotated to apply the brake. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the handle-bar A is pivoted on a pin D carried by the stem C, and is fitted with a lever F to which the brake rod is fitted. When the bar is rotated in the direction of the arrows, the rod is raised and the brake applied. A stop on the lever prevents movement in the opposite direction. The parts are arranged so that ordinary pressure or pull on the handles acts directly through the pin D. In a modification, the handle-bar turns in a socket on the stem, and the lever F projects through a slot in the socket.
