In the thumb lever shown in Fig. 1, the spring g connects an eye h on the rod i to the end of an extension d on the lever b, which is pivoted at f as usual. The lateral pull on the rod i tends to prevent rattling. In " pull up " levers, the spring is secured between the points c, d. A lever which can be operated by lifting one end or depressing the other is formed by extending the lever b to the right as shown in Fig. 4.
