Abstract

6278. Wild, A. G., and Logan, G. H. de V. March 12. Link-work.-In a system of levers, the main member 5 of the device operated, shown as applied to a railway-vehicle brake, works in a guide mounted on a fixed member 1. The member 5 is formed with a depending portion 9, to which is pivoted a pair of links 10, between the other ends of which is a pawl 11 adapted to engage racks 17, 18 on the guide 2. The bell-crank hand-lever 12 or other operating- means is pivoted on the member 5 and connected to the links 10 by links 13. In operating, the member 5 is lifted from a recess 7 into the guide, and the lever 12 depressed. The pawl 11 engages the racks and depresses the member 5. At the end of the stroke, a retaining-pawl 19 is pushed into engagement, allowing the lever 12 to be raised for the next stroke. A pin placed in one of the holes 6 may also be used for retaining purposes. Stops 15, 16 and 22, 25 limit the motion of the pawl 11.
