188,716. Variable Speed Gear, Ltd., and Ingoldby, M. K. July 13, 1921. Driving-arrangements for screw propellers.- Variable-speed hydraulic transmission apparatus for ship propulsion comprises main and secondary prime movers A, D driving main and secondary pumps B, E, and a motor C operated by liquid supplied by the pump B. Valved connections are provided so that the secondary pump E may supply the motor C in the event of failure of the main prime mover. A secondary motor F may be provided for driving machinery G for performing auxiliary functions during normal working.
