Abstract
188,101. Davies, R. Aug. 17, 1921. Rising and spring hinges of the type in which an eyepiece with a tapered under face, fixed to the gate, rotates upon a correspondingly tapered seating fixed to the gate-post, are provided with means upon the lower hinge whereby the free end of the gate may be raised when it has sagged, comprising a wedge which may be driven between the gate and the lower hinge pin. The upper hinge, Fig. 1, is provided with a spring h<1> which is compressed during opening and helps the closing action, the gate-style a being fixed to the tapered eye b by a wedge f. Similarly secured by a wedge p near the bottom of the style is a tapered eye o, Fig. 4, slotted to take a wedge i which bears through a distance piece m, upon the lower hinge pin r. Sufficient play is allowed in the upper eye b to enable the gate to rotate about this pivot when the wedge i is driven in, thus raising the free end of the gate and correct. ing sag.
