Belt fastenings. - In jointed belt fastenings, each half is formed from a plate doubled upon itself, the lower or inner fold being cut substantially to E-shape, spikes b<3> only being punched out of the outer fold, as shown in Fig. 10, or additional spikes b<4>, Figs. 1 and 6, being formed on and bent up from the inner fold. The spikes may lie parallel or at right angles to the hinge, and a raw hide pin a may form the connection. The edges b<2> of the fastener remote from the hinge may be bent over to assist the grip on the belt. Opening of the fastener beyond the straight may be prevented by forming interengaging notches b<5> on the outer plates.
