Abstract
187,672. Ryan, D. P., Douglass, E. J., and White, P. J. March 2, 1922. Stropping-apparatus.-Relates to machines for sharpening safety-razor blades wherein two cams H upon one of two relatively slidable portions T. U are so placed and shaped as to lift the rockably-mounted blade from off the sharpening- medium and to allow it to re-engage the medium at the times desired. According to the invention, a spring M is attached to one end of a cam. shaped piece L having two curved or inclined surfaces, the piece being adapted to bear upon studs S on a part K at the end of the blade carrier housing P so that, when over the medium, the blade is pressed thereupon, whereas, after being lifted by a cam at the end of a slid. ing movement, the blade is held vertical. The blades are held in the apparatus without the aid of screws, springs, catches or the like. If the blade is single-edged and has one or more projecting portions it may be inserted directly between the two closely disposed metal strips of the carrier housing P so that the edge projects. In the case of plain flat blades and single-edged blades without projections they are placed upon a carrier A and engaged with the carrier studs, the blade and carrier being then inserted between the strips of the housing P so that the blade is prevented from leaving the studs. By rotating the blade carrier housing in its bearings through 180‹ the opposite edge of a double-edged blade can be sharpened. The sharpening-medium. gripped at the side by a spring V, may be laid straight or diagonally, the bottom of the receptacle being made convex so that the medium can rock. Specifications 10749/04, 1375/12, 108,531, and 129,611 are referred to.
