Abstract

187,364. Lanchester, F. W. Aug. 9, 1921. Paddle wheels adapted to run on land.-Comprises a combined road wheel and feathering paddle wheel for automobiles of the amphibious type. The road wheel W has attached thereto a gear casing G containing the sun wheel S and planet wheels whereby the projecting paddles P are feathered. The sun axle 1 is connected by radius rods R and links 4 with the body of the vehicle. The planet wheels may be chain driven or be geared through an intermediate set of pinions with the central sun wheel. According to the Provisional Specification, the paddle wheel may be mounted, with its axis vertical, on a boat and the sun wheel is controlled so that the " phase " of feathering can be altered for steering or reversing.
