Abstract

187,227. Wasmundt, W. de., (Assignee of King, M.). Oct. 12, 1921, [Convention date]. Driving-gear; engines with main shaft parallel or inclined to axis of cylinder; revolving-cylinder and reciprocating-piston type; radialcylinder engines.-An engine is provided with cam driving- gear, the cam curve of which is constructed so that the piston pressure is always normal to the bearing surface which may be an involute are of a circle, or a series of arcs of circles, or other similar curve. Various geometric constructions for finding curves suitable for two or four-stroke-cycle fluid-pressure engines are described. A revolving, tangential-cylinder engine with a track shaped as shown in Fig. 9 is shown in Fig. 16. The pistons 6 carry rollers which may be mounted in ball-bearings 10, Fig. 18, and the distribution is effected by cylinder ports 11 alternately registering with pressure and exhaust ports 14, 15 in the casing. The pistons press normally on the parts b, c and b<1>, c<1> during the power strokes. In a four-stroke cycle engine, the centre of the drum may be disposed so that the compression stroke is less than the exhaust stroke, or the expansion stroke is increased, or both effects are produced', as shown in Fig. 19. Or the desired result may be obtained bv modifying the cam tracks. In Fig. 20 the deleterious tangential component of the piston's pressure on the driving-cam is eliminated by the interposition of a rolling lever 27 pivoted at a to the piston, the other end of the pivot b sliding in a groove 29. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises constructions of revolving, inclined-cylinder engines wherein the pistons are held by centrifugal force against face cams on central shafts. In Fig. 25 (Cancelled), pins 23 in the pistons bear on a ring mounted on an inclined track by a ball bearing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
