Abstract
186,230. Arrol-Johnston, Ltd., and Eastwood, G. W. Aug. 23, 1921. Windscreens. -A windscreen, particularly adapted for the rear seats of motor vehicles, is formed of two sections 19, Fig. 1, each of which is pivotally supported at an intermediate point of its lower edge 18 on an arm 16 hinged to the side of the vehicle and is also slidably supported at its outer lower corner, preferably by means of a guide 22 pivoted to a second hinged arm 20 or by a telescopic arm 20, so that the screen sections can be adjusted towards each other to form a single screen or may lie along the sides of the vehicle to form side screens or windows between the rear of the doors 10 and the back of the vehicle. In order to connect the two sections when the inner vertical edges meet to form a V or flat screen one section is provided with sockets 25, Fig. 2, engageable by sliding spring bolts located in a tubular casing 26 on the other section. In a modification, Fig. 4, the outer lower edges of the screen are pivoted to carriers 34 slidable on horizontal guide-rails 35, and the hinged arms 30 carry pivoted guides 32 slidably engaging the lower edges of the screen sections 29.
